Fortis Honors

We render final military honors to all veterans regardless of race, color, religion, or affiliation with a veteran’s organization. We provide our services at the request of and in cooperation with all Funeral Directors based in Marion County, Indiana, and those counties immediately adjacent.

We also can perform a Memorial Service at the request of the Family of the veteran. We will need a copy of the DD 214 or their VA Identification Card to do the Memorial Service. To request this service use the Memorial Service Request Form in the menu.

Our Honor Guard detail normally includes a Commander, a Chaplain, a Bugler, and a three-person Rifle Team. The complete ceremony includes a short reading and nondenominational prayer by the Commander and Chaplain, a rifle salute of three volleys, a bugler sounding Taps, the ceremonial folding of the United States flag and its presentation to the next of kin, and concludes with a presentation of the three spent cartridges representing the volleys fired in the rifle salute. We work with the honor guard detail from each military branch and tailor what we do to complement their portion of the service.

Our Color Guard detail normally includes a Commander, two flag bearers, and two riflemen acting as “protection”. We can perform the opening posting and closing retirement of the Colors as well as a narrated 13 folds of Old Glory.
